Julia Neal, AMiE president
Julia Neal qualified as a teacher in 1978 when she joined AMMA, which later became ATL. She was appointed as a history teacher at Torquay Girls' Grammar School and later became head of careers and enterprise education coordinator.
During this time she also developed her union career becoming Devon branch president and then represented Cornwall and Devon on the Executive Committee. Julia then became a national officer of the union and became ATL President in 2007/8. She also served on the TUC General Council and the TUC LGBT committee, and she is still a member.
On return to her school after national office she was appointed deputy director of the sixth form and became an AMiE member. She then went on to represent AMiE in the Executive Committee. Julia also served as chair of ATL's equality and diversity committee and became branch secretary for Torbay. She will hold the post of AMiE President 2016/17 while continuing to hold a teaching contract at Torquay Girls' Grammar School.
Mark Wright, Director of AMiE
Mark Wright leads AMiE's work in developing policy and practice content for leadership and management members. He acts as a central point of expertise through the provision of advice, guidance, coaching, publications and CPD. He represents AMiE to the media, government, and other key stakeholders. Steve Cooper manages the national helpline and AMiE's team of regional officers. He provides legal advice and updates on employment legislation, undertakes research on trade union and employment issues; supports national pay and conditions negotiations; and provides resources and support to branches and AMiE reps.
